WESTERN DIGITAL MY PASSPORT 1TB REVIEW PORTABLE

If you’re looking for a portable drive to expand your laptop or to backup, transport or share your photos, videos, music, documents or any other data, you’ve come to the right place!Īs a photographer, I’ve relied on portable drives for many years, using them on location to backup the contents of memory cards at the end of each shooting day (before putting them in a safe), or at home or in the office to backup larger quantities of data (whether from a laptop or a desktop). I also compared it to a selection of other portable drives including the slightly cheaper WD Elements series. In this review I tested the 4TB My Passport Ultra (the largest at the time of writing), although smaller 1 or 2TB capacities are also available. The WD My Passport Ultra is a portable drive that’s powered by your computer or console over a single USB cable and provides plenty of storage for backup, data transportation or simply just expanding the capacity of a system who’s internal drive has become stuffed to the brim. Alternatively get yourself a copy of my In Camera book or treat me to a coffee! Thanks! Buy it now! Check prices on the WD My Passport Ultra at Amazon, B&H, or Adorama.

These drives are so affordable they're a no-brainer for the flexibility and peace of mind they deliver. The bottom line though is to protect your data sooner rather than later. My personal preference is for capacity and value, so I'd go for the Elements models over the Ultras, but the prices can be so close I'd simply buy the one that represents the best value at the time of ordering. I own several WD portable drives and can highly recommend them.

Their portability also makes them great for providing more storage for laptop owners who've filled their internal drives, but aren't ready for a system upgrade quite yet. They can store and transport a large quantity of data quickly and easily - just one USB cable will transfer the data and power the drive, and once complete, they're small enough to slip into a jacket or even trouser pocket. This is why portable drives are so useful. Summary Backing up your data, whether it's photos, videos, music or plain old documents, is critically important, and a crucial part of the process is transporting the backup to a different location.
